Hyundai Recalling Nearly 600,000 Vehicles in the US
Hyundai Motor Company has recently announced a significant recall for approximately 600,000 vehicles in the United States. The affected vehicles include the popular Hyundai Palisade SUV and multiple IONIQ electric vehicle (EV) models.
This recall, which was announced on September 19, 2025, is due to a potential issue with the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU), which may cause a short circuit and increase the risk of a fire. Although there have been no reported accidents or injuries associated with this issue, Hyundai is taking precautions to ensure the safety of its customers.
Affected Models: Hyundai Palisade and IONIQ EVs
The recall affects various model years of the Hyundai Palisade SUV and IONIQ EVs:
- Hyundai Palisade: 2019-2022 model years
- Hyundai IONIQ Electric: 2017-2022 model years
Hyundai encourages Palisade and IONIQ EV owners to verify if their vehicle is affected by this recall by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website and entering their vehicle identification number (VIN).
Addressing the HECU Issue
Hyundai dealerships will inspect the HECU for signs of damage and replace it if necessary, free of charge to the owner. If a replacement is needed, the new HECU will contain additional software that monitors and alerts the driver to any potential issues related to the HECU's performance. Owners can expect to receive notification letters via mail by mid-November 2025, with instructions on how to proceed with the recall process.
Hyundai's Commitment to Safety
Hyundai is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its customers. This large-scale recall demonstrates the company's dedication to addressing potential issues proactively and mitigating risks before they result in accidents or injuries. Hyundai encourages Palisade and IONIQ EV owners to follow the instructions provided in their recall notification letters and to schedule an appointment with their local dealership to address this concern.
